Manjil Hydropower Plant

Manjil Dam, which is also known as Sefidrood Dam, is one of the landmarks of Rudbar city, which was built at the beginning of the Sefidrood river, at the confluence of Ghezel Ozan and Shahroud rivers.
Sefidrood Dam is one of the oldest dams in Iran, which was built near the city of Manjil. The construction of the Manjil Dam began in 1331 and ended in 1341. The water of Sefidrood Dam Lake is used to generate electricity and provide water resources for agriculture in Gilan province. At present, the required agricultural water of 172 thousand hectares out of 238 thousand hectares of paddy fields in the province depends on the Sefidrood dam and is supplied from this source.
Objectives of Sefidrood Reservoir Dam:
The main purpose of Sefidrood Dam is to regulate the inflows to Sefidrood River for irrigation of paddy lands of Gilan plain and Fumanat “located downstream”.
The sub-objectives propose by this dam are flood control, production of hydropower with a nominal capacity of 87.5 MWh, drinking water supply, providing water for the industries of central and east cities of Gilan, as well as supplying water required for aquaculture and animal husbandry.
Also, this dam is one of the most important power plants in the country to control the frequency of national electricity.
